Centralines is a consumer-owned and operated electricity lines business.

Centralines is one of 27 distribution companies in New Zealand. It distributes electricity to customers across the Central Hawke’s Bay region.

The Centralines network has over $54 million worth of assets, is 1,700km in length, and supplies around 8,500 connection points. Centralines is owned by the CHB Consumers Power Trust on behalf of the consumers in Central Hawke’s Bay.

Centralines is responsible for distributing electricity from Transpower’s national grid to electricity consumers.

As the only supplier of network services in our regions,  Centralines is regulated by:
• The Commerce Commission (Commission) under Part 4 of the Commerce Act 1986, and
• The Electricity Authority (Authority) under the Electricity Industry Act 2010 and other regulations.

    Ken Sutherland

    Chief Executive

    Ken Sutherland has extensive experience and leadership within the utility, infrastructure and electricity sector in New Zealand. He is Chairman of the Board of the Electricity Networks Association and a member of the electricity sector’s Chief Executive Group. He is also a member of the following organisations; the Business New Zealand Major Companies Group CEO Forum, the Energy Networks Association CEO Forum in Australia, the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants and the New Zealand Institute of Directors.     Jon Nicols


    Jon was appointed as a Director to Centralines in July 2011 and then as Chairman in December 2015. Jon is a business consultant involved in a number of strategic growth, regulatory and performance based initiatives for infrastructure related businesses in New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. He serves on the Boards of the Port of Napier and Palmerston North Airport Limited. He is also a member of the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, and is on the Audit and Risk Committee for the Hatings District Council. Read more about Jon
